Well, today is the last day I will see my finch babies before they fledge. We are heading out of town on our annual Memorial Day camping trip! It never fails, that I miss the first brood of babies leaving the nest! Hopefully when I return my finch family will be sitting on their second brood!
You probably can't tell from the picture, but there are 4 healthy babies in the nest. For those of you who have been following the progress of my finch family, there were 6 eggs. I'm guessing the 2 that hatched late failed to thrive. Unfortunately, when you are so close to nature, you get to see the good and the sad. I'm going to miss listening to them sing all day!
I would also like to report that I had 2 Purple Martins inspecting the Martin Mansion. Maybe I'll have them this season after all...we'll see! My final sighting this week was a Hummingbird...the first one of the season!
