Whole Wheat Cinnamon Rolls

Welcome to Food Friday #2...Whole Wheat Cinnamon Rolls! I start with a basic dough recipe but instead of making bread I roll it out flat and made cinnamon rolls!

Ingredients:
Basic batch of whole wheat dough
1 stick of butter divided in half
1 cup granulated sugar
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1/4 block of cream cheese
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Note: You can cut out some of the butter in the filling and icing and replace it with honey to make these a healthier treat!

While my dough was rising, I went ahead and started the next step.

I started by melting 1/2 stick of butter. Then mix in granulated sugar and cinnamon and mix well.

Step 2: Spread the cinnamon sugar mixture on your rolled out dough. After I spread it all over the dough I sprinkled some crushed walnuts on half of it!

Step 3: Once you've spead all your yummy filling, go ahead and roll it up into a log.

Step 4: You'll want to make a cut every 1-1 1/2 in.

Step 5: Place all of your cut rolls onto an oiled cookie sheet making sure you leave room for the rolls to rise.

Step 6 & 7: Let rise until they are double in size, about 20-30 minutes. Then bake for 17-20 minutes at 350*.

Step 8: While your rolls are baking, you can prepare your icing. Melt the other half stick of butter and cream cheese. Mix in the vanilla and powdered sugar.

Step 9: Spoon your icing onto your rolls and enjoy a tasty treat!
